Olympic Flame “Ares” participated in the annual Robbie Festival this weekend, supporting the wonderful charitable event that is the Robbie Festival. “Ares” drew two excellent teams in its matchups, both being amongst the highest rated at the Robbie. First, the boys took on the top Academy out there in Sigma FC. And the boys were completely up to the challenge, taking out one of the top teams participating in the Robbie Festival at the U12 age, in a thrilling 2-1 victory. “Ares” got fantastic efforts from every player on the roster, and the boys put on their best display of soccer yet. Our boys seriously impressed the Sigma FC coaches with their excellent display of teamwork and work rate, and of particular note, Nicholas (with both goals) and Tom (with a top notch goaltending display) were selected by the Sigma FC coaches as co-players of the game and presented with game balls.
After a 3 hour wait, “Ares” faced off in the scorching 30 degree heat against Richmond Hill Green, another of the top teams in the Robbie Festival lineup. Despite giving a 110% effort, the boys fell just short falling by a tight 3-2 score to the Richmond Hill entry in the OPDL next season. This time around, Thomas and Reese were presented with game balls as co-players of the game, although again almost anyone could have been selected. Considering the top opposition “Ares” faced this weekend, the boys can legitimately claim to be one of the better teams in the U12 division this year, well done boys!
