U16 (2003) OFSC “Ares” Blue (CSL) travelled to Windsor, Ontario from July 5-7, 2019 to participate in the 2019 Ontario Cup Tournament Round. “Ares” Blue made the long trip to Windsor on Friday to face the host Windsor FC Nationals in the first match. In 40 degree heat, after a 6-hour drive and very stormy weather, “Ares” Blue opened the tournament round with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss. With the score tied at 1-1 early in the second half, “Ares” Blue were down a man after a second yellow card. The boys fought hard to the end, but after tying the score at 2-2 while a man down Windsor scored a late goal to take all 3 points.
On July 6, 2019, “Ares” Blue defeated CSL rivals SC Toronto 9-0. With Oakville SC defeating Windsor 2-1 in the other Saturday match, “Ares” Blue went into Sunday controlling its own destiny. Any win better than 3-2 and “Ares” Blue would win the tournament round.
On another sweltering day, “Ares” Blue came out on fire and within 20 minutes lead Oakville 2-0. However, Oakville gamely fought back to tie the score 2-2 before the half. The “Ares” Blue boys regrouped at half-time, and came out firing on all cylinders in the second half playing inspired and fantastic soccer. The "Ares" Blue boys took the game to Oakville for the entire 2nd half and scored 3 unanswered goals to win the game 5-2, win their Ontario Cup tournament group, and earn progression to the 2019 Ontario Cup Quarterfinals!!! An absolutely fantastic result for the “Ares” Blue boys, who to a player left everything on the field and delivered one of the best and most memorable games they have played.
Congratulations to each and every “Ares” Blue player and the coaches on reaching the “Elite 8” in the 2019 provincial championship. 2019 has been an incredible year so far, with “Ares” Blue winning the MASC Tournament (Cincinnati) in April, the May Day Classic (Albany) in May, having a great start to the CSL season, and now an Ontario Cup Tournament Round victory!!! Keep it rolling, and good luck in the Ontario Cup Quarterfinal, to be played on August 10, 2019!
